Chapter 6
1 Levi’s sons: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
2 The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
3 Amram’s children were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. Aaron’s sons were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
4 Eleazar had a son named Phinehas, and Phinehas had a son named Abishua.
5 Abishua had a son Bukki, and Bukki had a son Uzzi.
6 Uzzi had a son named Zerahiah, and Zerahiah had a son named Meraioth.
7 Meraioth fathered Amariah, and Amariah fathered Ahitub.
8 Ahitub fathered Zadok, and Zadok fathered Ahimaaz.
9 Ahimaaz was the father of Azariah, and Azariah was the father of Johanan.
10 Johanan was the father of Azariah, who served as priest in the temple Solomon built in Jerusalem.
11 Azariah had a son Amariah, and Amariah had a son Ahitub.
12 Ahitub had a son named Zadok, and Zadok had a son named Shallum.
13 Shallum had a son named Hilkiah, and Hilkiah had a son named Azariah.
14 Azariah had a son named Seraiah, and Seraiah had a son named Jehozadak.
15 Jehozadak was taken captive when God let Nebuchadnezzar take away Judah and Jerusalem.
16 Levi’s sons: Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.
17 These are the names of Gershom’s sons: Libni and Shimei.
18 Kohath’s sons were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
19 Merari’s sons were Mahli and Mushi. These are the Levite families by their ancestors.
20 From Gershom: his son Libni, his son Jahath, his son Zimmah.
21 Joah was the father of Iddo, Iddo was the father of Zerah, and Zerah was the father of Jeaterai.
22 Kohath’s sons were Amminadab, then Korah, and then Assir.
23 Elkanah’s son, and Ebiasaph’s son, and Assir’s son.
24 Tahath’s son was Uriel, Uriel’s son was Uzziah, and Uzziah’s son was Shaul.
25 Elkanah’s sons were Amasai and Ahimoth.
26 Elkanah had these sons: Zophai and Nahath.
27 Eliab’s son was Jeroham, and Jeroham’s son was Elkanah.
28 Samuel’s sons were his firstborn Vashni, and Abiah.
29 Merari’s sons: Mahli, his son Libni, his son Shimei, his son Uzza.
30 Shimea was the father of Haggiah, and Haggiah was the father of Asaiah.
31 These are the people David chose to lead the music in God’s house after the ark was set in place.
32 They served at the tent where people met with music until Solomon built God’s house in Jerusalem; then they did their duties by their rules.
33 These are the ones who served with their children: Heman, a singer, who was the son of Joel, the son of Samuel, from the Kohathites’ descendants.
34 Elkanah’s son, Jeroham’s grandson, Eliel’s great-grandson, Toah’s great-great-grandson,
35 Zupf’s son, Elkanah’s son, Mahath’s son, Amasai’s son,
36 Elkanah’s son, Joel’s son, Azariah’s son, Zephaniah’s son,
37 Tahath’s son, Assir’s son, Ebiasaph’s son, Korah’s son,
38 Izhar’s son, Kohath’s son, Levi’s son, Israel’s son.
39 His brother Asaph was on his right side, Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea.
40 Michael’s son, Baaseiah’s son, Malchiah’s son.
41 Ethni’s son, Zerah’s grandson, Adaiah’s great-grandson,
42 Ethan’s son, Zimmah’s son, Shimei’s son,
43 Jahath’s son, Gershom’s son, Levi’s son.
44 Their relatives, the Merari family, stood on the left side: Ethan son of Kishi, grandson of Abdi, great-grandson of Malluch.
45 Hashabiah’s son, Amaziah’s grandson, Hilkiah’s great-grandson.
46 Amzi’s son, Bani’s son, Shamer’s son,
47 He was Mahli’s son, Mushi’s grandson, Merari’s great-grandson, and from the Levi family.
48 Their fellow Levites were assigned to all kinds of work at the tent of worship for God’s house.
49 Aaron and his sons made sacrifices on the altar for burnt offerings and the incense altar. They were in charge of the duties in the most holy place and to atone for Israel, doing everything Moses, God’s servant, told them to do.
50 Aaron’s sons were Eleazar, Phinehas, and Abishua.
51 Bukki’s son, Uzzi’s son, Zerahiah’s son,
52 Meraioth was the father of Amariah, Amariah was the father of Ahitub.
53 Zadok’s son, Ahimaaz’s son.
54 These are where they lived, in their strongholds within their territories, Aaron’s descendants from the Kohathite clans: they received this by drawing lots.
55 They gave them Hebron in Judah’s land, with the surrounding areas.
56 But they gave Caleb, son of Jephunneh, the fields and villages around the city.
57 They gave Aaron’s sons the cities in Judah: Hebron, the safe city, Libnah with its surrounding land, Jattir, and Eshtemoa with their surrounding land.
58 Hilen and its surrounding lands, Debir and its surrounding lands,
59 Ashan and its surrounding lands, and Bethshemesh and its surrounding lands.
60 From the tribe of Benjamin: the city of Geba and its surrounding land, the city of Alemeth and its surrounding land, and the city of Anathoth and its surrounding land. They had a total of thirteen cities for all their families.
61 To Kohath’s remaining sons from that tribe, ten cities were given from half of the tribe of Manasseh by drawing lots.
62 To Gershom’s sons among their family groups, from the Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Manasseh tribes in Bashan, thirteen cities.
63 The sons of Merari were given twelve cities by lot, from within the families of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
64 The people of Israel gave these cities and their surrounding land to the Levites.
65 They drew lots to give cities from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, each city named after them.
66 The remaining Kohathite families received towns within the borders of the Ephraim tribe.
67 They gave them, from the safe cities, Shechem in Mount Ephraim with its surrounding area; they also gave Gezer with its surrounding area.
68 Jokmeam and its surrounding lands, and Bethhoron and its surrounding lands.
69 Aijalon with its surrounding area, and Gathrimmon with its surrounding area.
70 From the half-tribe of Manasseh, they got Aner and its surrounding lands, and Bileam and its surrounding lands, given to the remaining Kohathite family members.
71 The Gershom family received from half of the Manasseh tribe, Golan in Bashan with its surrounding land, and Ashtaroth with its surrounding land.
72 From Issachar’s tribe: Kedesh and its surrounding area, Daberath and its surrounding area.
73 And Ramoth with its surrounding land, and Anem with its surrounding land.
74 From the tribe of Asher: Mashal and its surrounding lands, and Abdon and its surrounding lands.
75 And Hukok with its surrounding lands, and Rehob with its surrounding lands.
76 From Naphtali’s tribe: Kedesh in Galilee and its nearby lands, Hammon and its nearby lands, and Kirjathaim and its nearby lands.
77 The other descendants of Merari received from the tribe of Zebulun the towns of Rimmon and Tabor, along with their surrounding lands.
78 On the other side of the Jordan River near Jericho, on its east side, lands were given from the tribe of Reuben, including Bezer in the desert and its surrounding areas, and Jahzah with its surrounding areas.
79 Kedemoth and its surrounding lands, and Mephaath and its surrounding lands.
80 From the tribe of Gad: the town of Ramoth in Gilead and the surrounding area, and the town of Mahanaim and the surrounding area.
81 And Heshbon with its surrounding land, and Jazer with its surrounding land.
