Chapter 5
1 This book lists Adam’s descendants. On the day God made humans, he made them to look like himself.
2 God created them male and female; he blessed them and named them Human when they were created.
3 Adam lived 130 years, had a son who looked like him, and named him Seth.
4 Adam lived 800 years after the birth of Seth, and he had other sons and daughters.
5 Adam lived for 930 years, and then he died.
6 Seth lived 105 years and had a son named Enos.
7 After Seth had Enos, he lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters.
8 Seth lived 912 years, and then he died.
9 Enos was ninety years old when he became the father of Cainan.
10 After Enos had his son Cainan, he lived 815 more years and had other sons and daughters.
11 Enos lived for 905 years; then he died.
12 Cainan was seventy years old when he became the father of Mahalaleel.
13 Cainan lived 840 years after he had Mahalaleel, and had more sons and daughters.
14 Cainan lived for 910 years, and then he died.
15 Mahalaleel was sixty-five years old when he became the father of Jared.
16 After Mahalaleel had Jared, he lived 830 years and had more sons and daughters.
17 Mahalaleel lived for 895 years; then he died.
18 Jared lived 162 years and then had a son named Enoch.
19 After Jared had Enoch, he lived for 800 more years and had other sons and daughters.
20 Jared lived 962 years, and then he died.
21 Enoch was 65 years old when he became the father of Methuselah.
22 Enoch lived closely with God for 300 years after Methuselah was born, and he had other sons and daughters.
23 Enoch lived for 365 years.
24 Enoch lived close to God, and then he disappeared because God took him away.
25 Methuselah lived 187 years and had a son named Lamech.
26 After Methuselah became the father of Lamech, he lived 782 more years and had other sons and daughters.
27 Methuselah lived 969 years, then he died.
28 Lamech lived 182 years and had a son.
29 He named him Noah, saying, “He will bring us comfort from our hard work and the pain of our hands caused by the ground that God has cursed.”
30 After Lamech had Noah, he lived for 595 more years and had other sons and daughters.
31 Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died.
32 Noah was 500 years old when he had his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
